It’s been 20 years in the making but on Wednesday, November 17, representatives of all southwestern Utah’s Rotary clubs gathered to celebrate the formal chartering of the Rotary Club of Washington City. Amidst the celebratory joyful noise at Sand Hollow Resort, midway between Washington City and Hurricane Valley – with city officials from both communities in attendance – WCRC President Tyler Hunsaker rang his club’s shiny new bell for the first time calling 25 members to order for their first official meeting.
“This needed to happen in Washington City,” Hunsaker said of this successful 3rd attempt in two decades to bring Rotary International to Utah’s 35th largest city.
The 2nd most populated community in Washington County “is now on the Rotary map!” with members from Washington City, Washington City Chamber of Commerce and many business and professional leaders pledging their time and talent to helping their community in whatever way needed through “service above self.”
“We are already people of action,” noted Hunsaker as he reviewed a lengthy list of projects this new service organization has already completed since June or is in process or planned in the future.
Special thanks to Past District Governor Jim Coleman (RY2000-01) and District Membership Chair Scott Florence for their continued mentoring and amazing follow through on IPDG Linda Sappington’s request to “try again.” It would seem, 3 time’s the charm!
