PDG DEAN JACKSON RECOGNIZED WITH SERVICE ABOVE SELF AWARD

Dean L. Jackson was honored with the Service Above Self Award from DG John Hanrahan on Friday, May 15, 2020 during District 5420’s first ever, virtual District Conference.

Considered Rotary International’s highest honor, the Service Above Self Award recognizes up to 150 Rotarians each year from among more than 1.2 million members worldwide who demonstrate commitment to helping others by volunteering their time and talents. Recipients are selected with at least 3 nominations by the current District Governor, immediate past district governor, RI directors, and past RI directors.

Dean joined Rotary in Japan at the age of 18 and went through the ranks to serve as Governor of District 5420 in RY2007-08. He is a member of the Provo Rotary Club where he has served on the board of directors and as his club’s Centennial President. He also served as Administrative Assistant for the Host Organizing Committee for the Rotary International Convention in Salt Lake City in 2007. The following year he chaired the Zone Breakfast at the RI Convention in Los Angeles. In 2011, Dean who speaks Japanese fluently, served as Zone aide to RI President Sakuji Tanaka – the first non-Japanese to have this honor – and, in 2019, was Aide to RI director Takeshi Matsumiya at the Hawaii Peace Forum.

Dean has an ongoing relationship with Japan. Following the 2010 tsunami, he worked tirelessly with friends and colleagues to provide critical incident stress management (CISM) training and materials as well as support for disaster relief and rebuilding.

The PDG has numerous awards, recognition and accolades over 30 years of service to non-profit and law enforcement organizations, including in his community and the world.

Dean currently works at the Deputy Executive Director of the Cold Case Foundation while also dividing his time as a Lead Consultant for the Jackson Consulting Group; a member of the Utah CISM team, an accredited instructor for the International Critical Incident Stress Foundation, and a frequent guest lecturer at universities, law enforcement and fire agencies, victim assistant units and state Peace Officer Standards Training,

CONGRATULATONS, Dean. You are well-deserving of Rotary’s highest honor!
